Helen Grimm

Helen L. Grimm of Cold Spring passed away peacefully at her home September 5th. Helen was born September 30, 1925 in Monterey Park, California and spent her childhood growing up in the area.  She later attended the University of Southern California where she met her future husband Herbert. They moved east as the job market was not good in California at that time and eventually settled in Hillside Lake before moving to Cold Spring, where she lived for 50 years. After moving east, Helen obtained her Masters degree from Columbia University and worked many years as a psychiatric social worker for the State of New York. Helen was an avid gardener and a long time member of the Highland Garden Club. She filled her properties with vast and varied plant specimens and imparted her love of gardening and plants on her children and grandchildren. Helen was a 50 year member of the Girl Scouts of America and an active troop leader for over 20 years, also volunteering at the headquarters in Wallkill well into her 80s.

Helen is survived by her older sister Eleanor, children Peter and Miranda, grandchildren Cara, Brandon, Adrienne and Morgan as well as her five great grandchildren: Shia, Sean, Alexandra, Sasha and Dustin, in addition to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
