James “Jimmy” Markey, of Cold Spring, NY passed away on February 18, 2025 at the age of 63. He was born and raised in Cold Spring and graduated from Haldane High School in 1980. He worked at Orentreich Foundation for the Advancement of Science (“O Farms”) as a Master Carpenter and the Property Caretaker for 34 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent much of his time hunting, fishing, and boating out on the Hudson River. He was an active member of the Cold Spring Boat club.
Jimmy is predeceased by his parents, Leroy and Eva Markey. He is survived by his wife, LeeAnn Markey, his three children, Michele Hayden (Scott), Steven Markey (Cheyanna), and James Markey (Diliah). Beloved grandfather to Taylor Hayden, McKenzie Markey, Nathaniel James Markey. Brother to Donna Haight (Vinny), Susan Klietz (Roy), Roy Markey (Mia), and Kelly Perrin (Michael). Uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Dearest friend to Walter Klietz.
Jimmy was always happy, with a smile on his face that would immediately put you at ease. He could find common interests with anyone he would talk to and was quick to make friends with those he came to meet! Because of this, he was loved and surrounded by many throughout his life.
He was a fixture out on the water with his wife LeeAnn and would often be seen with family and friends enjoying the weather and fishing on the Hudson River. Jimmy loved to vacation with family and friends down at the Jersey Shore and Florida. He will be missed by all who knew him, but the memories made will last forever.
