Timothy Lusk

March 29, 1945 — August 25, 2019

Timothy John Lusk, a longtime resident of Cold Spring, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2019, his 46th wedding anniversary, at home surrounded by his wife and son.  For the last two months of his 74 years of life, he had been battling metastatic melanoma.

Tim was born on March 29, 1945 in Schenectady, New York to the late Harold Mark Lusk and Dorothy Billingham.  For many years, he was a salesman with NCR and other companies.  During the Vietnam era, Tim served as a 1st lieutenant in the Artillery in Germany.  On Bastille Day, July 14, 1972, he met his future wife, Barbara Harry, who at the time worked for the Hudson River Sloop, Clearwater, in the Cold Spring office on Main Street.  They were married on August 25, 1973 in New Canaan, CT.

He built his house learning many skills which later proved helpful in assisting many friends and neighbors.  While on the Vestry at the Episcopal Church of St. Mary-in-the-Highlands, several of these talents helped keep things functioning at the church.  He was well known as "Mr. Fixit".  At one point, the church organ electrical circuitry blew.  Tim replaced the collection of several boards and tackled the soldering wire situationfor about the next 18 months volunteering his time.  Periodically, his son, Rob, assisted with his electrical knowhow and test equipment. With Tim's efforts and John Drew's splendid musical talents, the notes poured forth from the organ just in time for a Christmas service.  Perhaps this was the first successful organ transplant done in a church.

Tim tinkered with Amateur Radios and achieved the highest FCC rating, the Extra license.  He enjoyed building and experimenting with antennas as well as the inner sanctums of said radios.  He also loved history and never ceased to read and study it.  He graduated from Union College with a B.A. in history, but he learned much more with his own persistent perusings.  He developed a deep appreciation of the founding fathers of our country and the brilliant beginnings of their writings that formed our freedoms.

Tim is survived by his wife, Barbara and son, Robert of Cold Spring; his sister, Joan E. Lusk, of Providence RI; sisters-in-law Diane Weeghman of Sarasota, FL; Susan Jennings of Sarasota, FL; brother-in-law, William Searson of South Hamilton, MA; and several nieces and nephews.

A Service of Christian Burial will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Episcopal Church of St. Mary-in-the-Highlands, 1 Chestnut Street, Cold Spring, NY.  A late luncheon reception will immediately follow in the Parish Hall to which everyone is invited.  For Tim's guestbook, please visit www.clintonfh.com.

In Lieu of Flowers, please consider a donation in Tim's name to The Episcopal Church of St. Mary-in-the-Highlands, 1 Chestnut Street, Cold Spring, NY 10516.  Tim had said, "St. Mary's, my involvement with the Vestry, and working on the beloved organ have provided deep gratification and satisfaction to me.  I wish the best to our St. Mary's-in-the-Highlands far into the future".  Condolences to the family may also be sent in care of St. Mary’s.
